I have extremely dry skin - it drives me crazy in the winter months! It appears that my girls may have the same issue as they are constantly telling me that they are itchy and asking me to reach places on their backs for them. It's really minor, there isn't anything to see or to lead me believe that it is anything but a little dry skin.
However, I really don't use much lotion on the girls. I suppose I could find a brand I like, but all the fragrances and chemicals and stuff just seem worthy of avoidance, plus I'm totally a low-maintenance kind of person. I don't use soaps or body wash on their skin either because I have such sensitivities to it myself.
Recently though, I appeased their complaints of itchiness by adding a capful of oil (in this case Burt's Bees Apricot Baby Oil) to their warm bath water. Now they ask to have an "oil" bath all the time. I don't know if it really helped or was more of a placebo for them, but oil has been helpful with my own dry skin problems. The great thing is that you could really accomplish the same thing with a little olive oil -weird as that may be, it's a skin treatment that has been used since antiquity - plus you probably already have it and it's totally natural and added fragrance and chem-free.
i use baby oil, cause i love the smell and its cheaper.
