Yesterday, the Classical Conversations group that we are a part of held it's last weekly classes until the end of summer. It was a special day to celebrate - there was time for the classes to get together to say good-bye to friends and receive certificates, recitals for those who are studying a musical instrument, a big trivia competition for all the students, and a fantastic lunch.
While it doesn't mark the end of the school year for us, as we will be continuing with some subjects such as math for another month or so, it definitely was a significant celebration.
It feels like we've accomplished something - we've made it to the end of our first year of home schooling and it has been good. Maybe one of the most significant things to celebrate is how much I've learned about us. I'm definitely the wiser about my own teaching styles, strengths and weaknesses, as well as how my children learn best and what is really difficult for them. It has been challenging at times, but also fraught with blessing and totally worth it to us to continue. We are going to continue with Classical Conversations next year and I'm really looking forward to it.
I'm really proud of my children and amused with how much I'm learning right along with them. I'm so excited to continue this adventure together!
Congratulations! Every year of home schooling is a HUGE accomplishment! And you're right...I am amazed every day how much I learn! I sort of wonder if I actually learned ANYTHING during my own school years!! :)
