I almost never post on what we've been doing with school, but today was fun and I thought I'd share a little. With our Classical Conversations group, we did some fun explorations including looking at a cow's eye and heart, experiments with dry ice, probability, salt crystals, and more. Hope loved this and has been asking to do more science experiments. Since we have finished Classical Conversations for the summer, we have a little more room in our daily schedules. So, I promised I'd pull a few things together.
- we read about clouds: how they form and the different kinds - then went and looked at the sky to see if we could identify the kind of clouds we saw
- we made our own clouds and rain in a jar (one large glass jar, add hot water to the bottom, cover with a cold metal pan from the freezer, then watch the vapor condense and rain down again)
- we played liquid, solid, or gas? (I named the object, they gave the state)
- we boiled water, talked about why it boils, and observed what it looks like.
- we used a cold spoon held over the pot of boiling water to condense the vapor and talk about that again.
- we talked about how boiling water is often used to cook food and we cooked and tasted a food that was new to them (cous cous).
